K-TOR to Attend ARRL Field Day

This weekend (June 23-24) K-TOR founder and certified radio amateur Kenneth Torino will attend the 2012 ARRL Field Day.  The American Radio Relay League (ARRL) is the largest association of radio amateurs in the country with over 150,000 members.  Also called ham radio, amateur radio is the use of designated radio frequency specturm for purposes of private recreation, non-commercial exchange of messages, wireless experimentation, self-training, and emergency communication.

The objective for the 2012 Field Day is to work as many stations as possible on any and all amateur bands and to learn to operate in abnormal situations and less than optimal conditions.  An exercise in emergency preparedness as much as a demonstration, Field Day will feature tens of thousands of amateur radio operators firing up portable radio stations from locations all over the country.

K-TOR® generators like the Power Box pedal power generator are an important backup power solution available radio amateurs.  When properly configured with an AC converter, the Power Box can charge a 12 volt battery which can power amateur radio equipment in emergency situations.  Ken will be bringing the pre-production Power Box prototype to Ohio to meet with fellow amateur radio operators and demonstrate this product’s effectiveness in such situations.

Stay tuned for a formal update on the production status of the Power Box and details about 12 volt battery charging.
